The Southern United States, also known as the South Region or simply South, is one of four census regions defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, comprising 17 states across three divisions: South Atlantic (Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia), East South Central (Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee), and West South Central (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas).
